While Nikki is busy examining the body of a young woman Karen Sawyers, Jack is surprised to find the SIO on the case is Naomi Silva.

The first prime suspect, Karen's husband Pete, is found covered in blood and clearly suffering. The forensic evidence leads the team to a cosmetic clinic, where a pregnant Karen had been receiving various treatments seemingly free of charge.

Nikki and Silva soon become frustrated when Simon Laing, the CEO of Hamilton Ashe hospital, blocks their access to Karen's medical records. However, when a second body is found and all evidence leads back to Hamilton Ashe, Laing is forced to help the team.

Meanwhile, when Thomas's daughter Rosie unexpectedly turns up at the Lyell, Thomas has to deal with a more complex role... being a father.

By now, Nikki and Jack are gaining the wrong kind of attention. And when Nikki goes missing, Jack is forced to make decisions that will end in life or death…

Covenant, Part Two Jan 24, 2017

Examining the contents of Liam's phone, Clarissa has found a longer version of the video and sees a flash of Paul's face as he peers from the stairs. Retrieving Paul's laptop, Clarissa takes it to Max's lab and finds reams of communication between Paul and another person, under pseudonyms, which starts to unravel the mystery of the Billingsgate killings.

Meanwhile, Clarissa is amused to see Thomas' nose put out of joint and Jack soon feels paranoid that Max is poaching Clarissa for his own lab. Will Clarissa remain with the Lyell team?

Covenant, Part One Jan 23, 2017

Father and son Bill and Frankie McAteer are killed in a horrific car accident on their way home from work at Billingsgate Market. Nikki and Jack arrive at the scene of the crash to meet DS Jodie Tanner, and to discover Frankie's body still in the car but riddled with bullets. Whoever was driving the SUV had a gun.

Back at the Lyell centre, Nikki's post mortem examinations suggest that Frankie was the target, rather than Bill. Clarissa and Max discover a deleted video on a mobile phone showing a sexual encounter between Frankie, his girlfriend Becky and best friend Liam, which was posted on a revenge porn website. However when Liam is also killed, the video becomes the key to the killings.

When Nikki and Tanner visit Becky, her flatmate Paul enters and she bursts into tears about the murder. But Paul looks like he has worries of his own…

Meanwhile, Clarissa's husband Max is an expert in the fast-developing field of digital forensics and lends some equipment to help crack Frankie's seemingly-empty phone, his arrival causing an icy reaction from both Thomas and Jack.

It's a sunny May bank holiday and the newspapers are abuzz with the news of the disappearance of a young schoolteacher.

Investigating officer DCI Andy Steemson asks Nikki and Jack to examine the small blood traces, bike tracks and a charred cake in the oven in the house. This was no planned disappearance.

Meanwhile, Thomas is called to the site of the murder of an ex-junkie and a petty criminal with the opposite circumstances. The body has been thrown from the top of a flyover and DS Maureen Steele, a police officer with a drink problem, has been given the case. Bumping up against Steele's dismissive attitude, Thomas becomes determined to win justice for the victim - and ultimately forms an unlikely alliance.

However when a body is found in a pond off the M25, Nikki and Jack make the discovery that the deaths are linked. But what is the link between these two disparate cases?

Breaking into the van, Jack and Nikki are met by a horrifying sight, as Nikki realises that Akka's mother is among the dead.

Meanwhile, Sosa's van is arriving into Dover Ferry Port. The illegal passengers are nearly caught when Border Force officers ask to inspect the van, but a corrupt official overrules his employees and wave the van through.

River's Edge, Part One Feb 1, 2016

The Lyell team investigate the clinical shooting of a mother, stepfather and son by the River Malt, to determine who killed this picnicking family and why. The investigation soon turns to the female victim's estranged husband. The couple were in the middle of a bitter and acrimonious divorce, and records kept by the deceased show that the husband has a propensity for violence.
Working on the case is local detective Malcolm Guillam, about to retire and haunted by the death of a young woman near the River Malt ten years ago. When the present day murder brings back memories of the unsolved case, Guillam sees an opportunity to redeem himself. But leading the investigation is DCI Butcher, who is certain the estranged husband is responsible for the murder, and has little time for Guillam's perceived trip down memory lane.
Meanwhile, registrar Amy is advancing in her surgical career when news of the River Malt shooting brings back memories of the same incident that haunts DS Guillam. Attempting to bury her past, Amy is unwillingly pulled back into the same world that caused the death of her friend ten years ago and forced to confront the high-powered people she has been trying desperately to forget.

The body of an armed police officer is found as the investigation continues. The team join the manhunt for a supposed cop killer named Bruno. Jack hopes to reach the killer first and believes he can talk him into handing himself in, before more murders are committed. As he continues his own investigation, he soon uncovers links to the gun trade in London. The other armed police officers are questioning their safety after the murder and it soon becomes apparent that the killer is very highly trained, putting more pressure on Jack and the links he has uncovered.

A Polish teenager becomes the victim in an armed police operation, putting the department under severe scrutiny. Soon after the inquest delivers a lawful killing verdict, the body of a mutilated Turkish man turns up near the scene of the first shooting. Vicky Sharpe has to question whether the two killings are linked and approaches Lyell to seek help in sorting through the evidence. More bodies are discovered as the investigation continues and the team get drawn into the world of Turkish gangsters.
