A local sex worker is attacked and it doesn't take long for Catherine to put two and two together and to arrest a well-known local. As the anniversary of Becky's death coming up, Clare and Daniel help Catherine pull together to give Ryan a happy birthday. Ryan receives a gift from an anonymous sender, all celebrations are cut short and a rift between him and Catherine is soon exposed. Clare is troubled when she learns about Neil's past relationships. Darryl confronts the sheep rustlers from the estate.

Tommy wants Frances to go further in her attempts of ruining Catherine's life. John is concerned when a new body is discovered.

While she remains a suspect in the Lynn Dewhurst investigation, Catherine focuses on a human trafficking case.

Other relationships are thrown into turmoil as Catherine kindly takes in son Daniel after he is thrown out of his house, while Detective Sergeant John Wadsworth faces a tough decision when his girlfriend unexpectedly turns up at the house he shares with his wife and children.

When another dead body is found the police begin to suspect a serial killer is behind the murders, and Detective Superintendent Andy Shepherd and Detective Inspector Jodie Shackleton are called in to head up the case. Locked away behind bars, Tommy Lee Royce is given some very unexpected news and, distraught, seeks comfort in a mysterious female visitor.

Things get tense at Catherine's birthday party when a drunk Daniel reveals a different version of past events with Becky. Catherine's fears grow when she learns that Tommy has been spending time with Ryan.

Catherine sinks into a deep depression as she learns that Tommy is still at large. The net finally closes in on Kevin.

Catherine's focus returns to the job in hand as she searches for the owner of the suspicious Milton Avenue property, with dramatic consequences.
